Car Insurance Pontiac (Car Insurance). How does a mid-engine rear wheel drive layout work? How does a mid-engine rear wheel drive layout work? I was looking at this GTM supercar kit and I can't tell if the transmission is mounted to the front of the motor of if the intake manifold is just backwards. If the whole drivetrain was just flipped around wouldn't the transmission be ahead of the motor? Is this how exotic cars do it? http://www.factoryfive.com/photogalleries/gtm/gtmchassisgallery.html The intake is flipped 180 degrees, the front of the engine faces the front of the car. Think of it this way: It's basically a front wheel drive engine/transmission mounted to the back wheels. It's called a "mid" engine car because the engine still sits in front of the rear axle. I had a rear-mid engine Lotus Europa with a Renault engine and transaxle. The power train came from a Renault 16, which was front-mid engine - the transaxle was originally ahead of the engine. If the whole assembly was just transplanted into the Lotus chassis by turning it around it would have had four reverse gears and one forward one. I'm sure it would have been amusing but not what they wanted. To fix that, Lotus flipped the differential cage over in the gearbox so the output shafts turned the opposite way... that is, the left shaft still turned anti-clockwise but was on the right side. BMW E39 540i rough idle, FC P0305? BMW E39 540i rough idle, FC P0305? I am getting a misfire on cylinder 5, CEL comes on and blinks occasionally while driving. Car drives but with loss of power and sluggish. The only code I get is P0305 (misfire detected on cylinder 5). I have checked cylinder 5 and 6 nothing stands out. I still have yet to diagnose fuel pressure and injector delivery. The auto parts store pulled the code for me, I have yet to receive my reader this week. Auto store cannot reset codes per regulations. Car feels like a cylinder fuel cutoff is in effect, but code don't reflect that. I have recently replaced the one and only CPS on this car and it ran fantastic until I floored it couple of days ago. The next morning misfire suddenly appeared. Pontiac . How to Install 2006 Jeep Wrangler Console Cylinder LocksThe 1997 to 2006 Jeep Wrangler came standard with a center console that does not lock like previous versions of the Wrangler. This might be a problem as most Wranglers are unlocked or have no roof on top. This makes the Wrangler susceptible to break-ins. A locking center console will help keep your Jeep secured, and replacing your stock center console is actually easier than many would think. Difficulty:Easy Instructions Things You'll Need Locking center console kit with hardware Ratchet and socket set Power drill 3/8-inch drill bit Phillips screwdriver Step by Step : 1 Remove the rubber linings found in the front cup holders to reveal a large black bolt. Remove the bolt using a ratchet and socket set. 2 Remove the rubber lining from the rear cup holders. Remove both bolts found underneath the lining. Pull the center console up and out of the Jeep Wrangler. 3 Drill the existing mount holes using the 3/8-inch drill bit to make the drill holes a little larger in diameter. Place the new locking console onto the mounting hole. 4 Use the Phillips screwdriver to tighten the self-tapping screws in the holes on the passenger side of the locking console. They are self-tapping screws so you do not need to pre-drill any holes. 5 Use the ratchet to bolt down the console using the 5/16-inch bolts and nuts in the 3/8-inch hole you drilled. Use the key that comes with the console to lock the console. ResourcesEdmunds: 2006 Jeep Wrangler
Pontiac . How to Replace Brushes on a Four Brush Starter MotorBrushes in a four brush starter motor are used to brush away harmful materials that can get into the motor and make it stop working. Due to how hard they work, the brushes eventually wear out and stop working, leading to a frequently stopping motor, along with a dirty interior of the motor housing. Replacing these brushes (about every 40,000 to 50,000 miles) will keep the motor strong, especially in old age. Difficulty:Moderately Easy Instructions Step by Step : 1 Turn off the vehicle (whatever the motor is in) and let it rest for about two hours so everything can cool. If you don't do this, the motor will be incredibly hot and you will receive severe burns. 2 Look to the side of the four brush motor starter and you will see a cap that is held on with five screw. Use a Philips head to remove the screws, and take off the cap. 3 Use a ratchet and remove the bolts from the two large gears you find. Remove the gears to see the internal machinations of the motor. 4 Twist the brushes out. There will be five washers on the brush. Keep track of how they were placed on the brush, because swapping their order will not allow you to place the new brush on correctly. 5 Place the washers on the new brush and spin it into place. Do this for the other three brushes. Place the gears back in, and tighten the cap on the motor to finish the brush replacing. *If your car sounds like an old taxi, especially when you drive it on a bumpy road, it may just need lubrication (see Chapter 16). However, the problem might be worn shock absorbers or struts, suspension ball joints, or broken stabilizer links (see Chapter 11). You may get used to the squeaks and groans, but they also indicate wear, because they're caused by parts rubbing together or moving without the proper lubrication. Obviously, action is called for. The following section may be of help. If there is a persistent squeak under the vehicle, your mechanic may be able to install an additional grease fitting in the squeaky area at a low cost. Tweety Bird and other old Mustangs of her vintage were prone to squeaks in the A-frame under the front bumper. A grease fitting on each side of the upper control arm cured the sound effects quickly and cheaply. Smelts Ideally, other than that new-car smell, the only odors you should smell inside your vehicle should come from smelly things that you've put in it: the takeout lunch that you bought at a drive-through, the perfume that your 6-year-old squirted all over herself, your not-so-freshly groomed dog who's pressing his nose against your recently washed windows. You can get rid of persistent odors easily by using Febreze, a spray that eliminates odors rather than masking them. But if you smell any of the items in the following list, take Pontiac . One of your hoses may have come loose and landed on a hot part of the engine. Rescue it before it melts through. v0 Do you smell burned rubber with the hood closed? Feel your wheels. If one is hot, a brake shoe may be dragging, or you may have left the parking brake on. If neither of these checks out, an overheated clutch may be the cause. Chapter 20: Troubleshooting Leaks, Squeaks, Smells, and Strange Sensations A 2 7 i«* Do you smell oil burning? (It has a thick, acrid odor.) First check the oil dipstick by following the directions in Chapter 3. Your oil pressure gauge may be lying, and you may be out of oil. Or your engine may be overheating, and your temperature gauge may be broken. If neither is the case, look around the engine for an oil leak that may be frying in the heat of the running engine. If the oil situation seems to be okay, check the transmission fluid dipstick. Sometimes a faulty vacuum modulator can siphon the fluid out of the transmission and feed it to the engine, where it's burned. Also, if the transmission fluid is very low, it can be burned in the transmission because the gears aren't lubricated enough and are getting very hot. V Do you smell oil or exhaust fumes in the passenger compartment? The cause could be burned oil from the engine area — but it could also be a faulty exhaust pipe under the car that lets exhaust gases get into the vehicle through the floorboards. Exhaust fumes are full of carbon monoxide, so if you smell oil or exhaust in the car, be sure to keep your windows open at all times and have the problem checked out as quickly as you can. We've all heard stories about people who have died on the highway from carbon monoxide or from passing out at the wheel because of it. Such stories are true. W Do you smell something sweet and steamy? Take a look at the temperature gauge or light on your dashboard to see whether your car is overheating. Chapter 14 tells you how to cool things down. v* Do you smell rotten eggs? The smell is probably coming from the catalytic converter, which is part of the exhaust system. The converter may be malfunctioning, or you may have a problem with your engine. C Do you smell burned toast (a light, sharp odor)? Unless you've brought breakfast with you, it may be an electrical short circuit, or the insulation on a wire may be burning. Check around under the hood. Driving is a bit risky, so either get to the nearest garage or have a technician come to you. Pontiac . What percent of people own cars in india?

If the smell comes from under the hood area, check your fuel injection system or carburetor to make sure that it isn't leaking fuel. Also check your fuel pump. The gasoline will wash a clean streak across it, which can be seen with the naked eye. Then check for leaks down the fuel line all the way to the fuel tank. Also, check all the fuel lines and hoses. If they've rotted or are disconnected, you'll smell fuel vapors without seeing any leaks. Taking a look under the vehicle after it's been parked overnight may help, but remember that fuel evaporates quickly, so the clues may be stains rather than wet spots. Obviously, you don't want to smoke while you're doing this! If your usual repair facility isn't close by, either drive to the closest garage and have them repair it, or call your auto club and have them deal with the leak by either fixing it on the spot or towing the vehicle to a repair facility. Smoke If you see smoke coming from your tailpipe, pay attention to the color for clues to what the problem is: If you see white vapor on a cold morning, disregard it if it stops after the car warms up. If it continues after the car is warm, a cracked engine block or cylinder head or a leaky head gasket may be letting water into the engine. You'll need professional help with this one. If you see black smoke and you have a carburetor, the fuel/air mixture may need to be adjusted to a leaner setting. You can find information about adjusting it in Chapter 13. Black smoke from a vehicle with fuel injection usually requires special diagnosis and should be left to a repair facility. You can check to see whether the fuel/air mixture is too rich by running your finger around the inside edge of the tailpipe (first make sure that it's not hot). If carbon comes off on your finger, the mixture is probably too rich. Pontiac . What are the names of the cars that are said to be called true muscle cars?
